Dick Conrad

Dick first lived in Vermont in the fifties when he was a student at Middlebury College. Then, he made a complete change to become a ‘city boy’, working in New York first for New York Telephone Company and then for AT&T as a market research analyst. He only left city behind when his job moved to New jersey, which is where he lived the following twenty-five years. When Dick and Judith first met, in the mid eighties, he said “I went to Middlebury College”, and she said, “Well I have a house in Goshen, about half an hour from Middlebury”. And, as they say ‘The rest is history’! Dick and Judith moved to Goshen in 1985, and for eleven happy years they ran ‘Judith’s Garden Bed and Breakfast’. At the same time Dick became an active participant in Goshen town government, serving as a two-term member of the Selectboard. He is a long-tme member of the Planning Commission and also Chair of the board of Adjustment.

Dick is a skilled photographer and a juried member of the Brandon Artists Guild, where he has photographs on display and for sale. In addition, he (with photographs) and Judith (with words) jointly produce a monthly gardening column for the Addison Independent.

Dick also sings with the Middlebury College/ Community Chorus for patients in hospice care.

Dick and Judith cherish their Life in Goshen – a place where people know each other and neighbors help neighbors in need. Indeed they with never forget how everyone rallied around when, in 2008, Dick was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease and, for more than a year, was confined to a wheelchair. Neighbors helped with mowing the lawn, cleaning the snow, moving pots indoors for the winter, and many many other acts of kindness. This feeling that we are all part of a vibrant community is what makes Goshen truly special.
